I am Daxin Niu, a NYC-based photographer with a passion for film photography.
My fascination with film photography began during my Philosophy studies at NYU. Drawing parallels with Plato’s concept of “Forms,” film photography allows me to hone in on the very essence of the art. By setting limitations, I can eliminate distractions and focus solely on the subject and its surroundings. In today’s fast-paced world, I deeply value the deliberate pace of film photography, cherishing each moment of the process.
What also captivates me is the tangible nature of film. The union of a purely mechanical procedure with the chemical reactions of light reflecting onto a film strip is profoundly romantic to me. The ability to create a photograph without relying on digital technology or electricity in today’s world is truly enchanting.
